Electrical FAQs
How can I tell if I need a rewire?
If you have a home or building that was built over 30 years ago or has not been rewired after 25 years, it is important to have the electrical system inspected by a professional. Faulty wiring can be a serious hazard and can lead to fires or electrocution. Therefore, it is important to ensure that all electrical wirings and appliances meet current regulations and do not pose a threat to your safety.
Getting your building rewired can be a messy job so it is crucial that you get an electrician in to do a complete rewiring prior to any decorative work. Learn more about our electrical rewiring service.
What is an EICR?
EICR stands for Electrical Inspection Condition Report. It is mandatory to have an EICR report for your property if you are a Landlord and you rent your property out. This report must be completed every 5 years or after a change in occupancy to ensure compliance with the current version of BS7671.
If you're encountering issues with your electrical installation, such as tripping, it is recommended to obtain an EICR. This report will provide insight into the condition of the cabling within your property.
What is PAT Testing?
PAT (Portable Appliance Testing) is the process of visually and electrically testing any electrical equipment for safety whether for work or personal use.
The reason we have PAT Testing is to ensure that an appliance is electrically safe for all those who use it. We visually check the appliance for any defects like damage or missing components. The appliance goes through a number of electrical checks such as continuity, insulation resistance and polarity.
In a nutshell, PAT Testing is needed:
- To make sure your appliances are safe to use
- To make sure your company meets the requirements of the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations
- To make sure your Insurance is valid.
- To meet Health & Safety requirements
- To meet the requirements stated in The Electricity at Work Regulations
